| (860) 424-3338 |
CT Department of Environmental Protection Spill Response
Division 24 Hour Hotline |
| (800) 424-8802 |

or is likely to reach the Quinnipiac River Estuary |
Call both numbers! The first number goes to CTDEP, and the NRC number
goes to the Coast Guard, who also notifies CTDEP.
Typical Problems to Report
- Oily sheen on the water. When you call the numbers above, try
to identify the source of the problem or at least the point where
the sheen begins (seeping from the shore, discharge from outfall
pipe, etc.).
- Leaking drums or tank(s). Call the CTDEP 24 hour hotline, local
police and the Local Zoning Enforcement
Officer.
- A truck or car dumps liquid into a stream or storm drain. Contact
the above numbers immediately. Copy down a license plate number.
Do not attempt to confront the person(s). They may try to retaliate
or just dump somewhere else.
- Someone dumps used car oil into a storm drain. Call the CTDEP
Spill Response Division. If it has not rained recently, it may be
possible to collect the oil before it spreads through the storm
drain system. It is ilegal to discharge oil into the waters of the
United States. Get a license plate number and call the local police.
